AS a result of a suggestion at the Village News AGM, our April edition sported a glossy cover even though it was printed in black and white. Until now glossy covers have been used only for the editions with full-colour covers, and this was a trial to see how it looked on the black and white editions.
The full-colour covers (which all agree do improve the impact of the magazine hugely) cost an additional £140 per edition, and the annual budget will only allow five of these per year. However the glossy cover on the five black and white editions costs a modest £30 per issue, which the budget could afford. Apart from looking and feeling better, the high quality paper gives editors 4 pages on which photos can be printed at higher quality, doing justice to the fine pictures which readers send in.
Initial feedback on the April glossy cover has been favourable, so we intend to continue with this trial for the rest of the year. The editors would be interested to know what you think.
