2014 is now upon us and the Long Marston & Puttenham Horticultural Society celebrates the new year in the usual fashion by staging our annual pantomime. With the considerable talents of our director/creator, Neil Gurney, who comes to us fresh from directing a very successful production of ‘Dr Doolittle’ at Pendley starring Alan Munt in the title role, we are presenting ‘Sleeping Beauty’ at the Victory Hall in Long Marston on 20-22 February during the half-term holiday. This year, all performances will start at 7:30 with a children’s matinee on the Saturday afternoon. It is our 27th production and we will also be joined on stage by a very special guest for the children. Tickets are currently on sale in the Queens Head, Long Marston, the Wilstone Village Shop and Mead’s Farm Shop on Icknield Way. They are also on sale on Sunday afternoons from 2pm at Long Marston Victory Hall or by calling Kathy Sartin on 01296 662734. With something for all the family, this traditional pantomime is a must and we look forward to seeing you there.
With this being a totally amateur production, in addition to being put through our paces on stage by Neil, we also create our own sets, make our own props and costumes, and ensure the paying public have a thoroughly enjoyable night out via our front-of-house team. In order to do this, volunteers are actively sought to come and join our group, from wielding a paint brush on Sundays at Wilstone Village Hall to helping sell raffle tickets or serve drinks on the night. With 10 members of the chorus this year, we are especially looking for people who can help create and sew costumes for them. We welcome anyone who would like to help in any capacity.
